CeFPaC Experience
Conducting research at CeFPaC is a very challenging and fulfilling experience. Over the past four years, I've conducted several fundamental physics-based research experiments as well as application-based experiments by investigating a new type of active flow control: piezo-electrically driven discrete surface-mounted cylinders as well as a hybrid actuator which integrates a finite span synthetic jet from an orifice on the finite-span cylindrical element. The implementation of these surface mounted actuators, specifically the piezo-electrically driven dynamic (deployable) pin actuators, is studied as a means to control flow separation, which was supported by The Boeing Company. The lab encompasses projects from a variety of aerospace industries, national labs, and government branches, facilitating a very focused and diverse environment. All students are allotted an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and sufficient resources to support forward progression each day. One-on-one time with our advisor is routine and is extremely helpful to each of the students and their projects' success. And all students and staff members are eager to teach and help each other in research as well as in coursework. The research and work is very focused and challenging, but extremely rewarding. Being a member of CeFPaC has provided a wonderful platform for advancing my engineering knowledge, hands-on skills, presentation techniques, working as part of a team, and contributing to the broader flow control community.
